Parent’s Promise Sometimes I will correct you, But remember it is because I love you. At times I will seem unreasonable, But I love you nonetheless. Often you may disagree with my values, But don’t forget my love. My love will be there Whatever you do, Wherever you are, and Whatever others might think of you. It’s forever. | Desiderata Go Placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story: Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is. Many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars. You have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore,be at peace with God, whatever you perceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its sham and drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. – Max Ehrmann |

| Footprints One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to him and the other to the Lord. After the last scene flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it: "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I've noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed you most, you left me." The Lord replied "My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." | Prayer
of St Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, unity; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen. |

and Wife -Keep us, 0 Lord, from pettiness. Let us be thoughtful in word and deed. Help us to put away pretence, and face each other in deep trust without fear or self-pity. Let us be done with fault-finding, and be quick to discover the best in every situation. Guard us from ill temper and hasty judgment. Encourage us to take time for all things, to grow calm, serene and gentle. Help us to be swift with kind words. Teach us never to ignore, never to hurt, never to take each other for granted. Engrave charity and compassion on our hearts. |

A smile costs nothing, but gives much. It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it and none is so poor but that he can be made rich by it. A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business and is the countersign of friendship. It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is nature’s best antidote for trouble. Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has none to give. - Authorship under dispute |

| If If you can keep your head when all about you --------Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, --------But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, --------Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, Or being hated, don't give way to hating, --------And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream and not make dreams your master; --------If you can think and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster --------And treat these two imposters just the same. If you can make one heap of all your winnings --------And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings --------And never breathe a word about your loss. If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, --------Or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, --------If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute --------With sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, And which is more you'll be a Man, my son! --------------------------------- Rudyard Kipling |

| Love
Who? Love the lonely, that they be not alone, but also Love the popular, that they may have a friend when the crowds have gone. Love those unhappy, that you may share their pain, but also Love the joyous that together you might stand at the door of Heaven. Love the stranger, that he may see goodness in the world, but also Love your friend, that both might be renewed by your friendship. Love the poor, that they may have consolation, but also Love the rich, that they might learn what is truly of worth. Love those distressed, that you may help them find peace, but also Love those at peace that you might both be as one. Love the proud, that they may see the depth of their ignorance, but also Love the humble that you might see their hidden strength. Love the powerful, that they may learn where real power lies, but also Love the meek, that with them you might inherit the earth. Love those who are evil, that they may glimpse their own darkness, but also Love those of God, that your love become perfect like unto theirs. (c)Copyright 1994 Mike Lovett |

| Spirit
of Youth Youth is not a time of life...it is a state of mind. Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years; people grow old by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self distrust, fear and despair...these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the spirit back to dust. Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every being's heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement at the stars and the starlike things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what next, and the joy and the game of life. You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair. - Douglas MacArthur |

If I live in a house of spotless beauty with everything in its
place, but have not love, I am a housekeeper ... not a homemaker. If I have time for waxing, polishing, and decorative achievements, but have not love, my children learn of cleanliness ... not godliness. Love leaves the dust in search of a child’s laugh. Love smiles at the tiny fingerprints on a newly cleaned window. Love wipes away the tears before it wipes up the spilled milk. Love picks up the child before it picks up the toys. Love is present through the trials. Love reprimands, reproves and is responsive. Love crawls with the baby, walks with the toddler, runs with the child, then stands aside to let the youth walk into adulthood. Love is the key that opens salvation’s message to a child’s heart. Before I became a mother I took glory in my house of perfection. Now I glory in God’s perfection of my child. As a mother, there is much I must teach my child ... but the greatest of all is Love. When we honestly ask ourselves which persons in our lives mean
the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead
of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to
share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.
The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair
or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement,
who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face
with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who
cares. — Henri Nouwen |
